NEWS!

November 2024 update:

“A Healing Blanket of Moss” inspired by T’aanu Llnagaay and Cha’atl, Gwai Haanas, BC by Jean Oliver NFS

Since returning from Haida Gwaii in late July, huge progress has been made on the paintings. It’s an infinite amount of material, and a finite amount of time, as there are two shows booked for the paintings in 2025. Everything must be ready! So I cancelled a few things, and postponed others. With a load of fresh canvas in stock, paintings keep slowly appearing off the end of my brush. It still feels like a wonderful dream.

Check Facebook and Instagram for regular progress updates!

EVENTS:

Photo: One I photoshopped years ago of me from sitting in a lawnchair into a Garry Oak–a time of a much thinner me. I still climb trees.
The journey to Haida Gwaii was unbelievable, it changed my whole perspective, and ignited a new direction for my work. Thank you to everyone who contributed in so many wonderful ways. It was all incredibly humbling.

Now, to canvas!

SHOWS BOOKED for 2025:

Exciting news!  A solo show, of canvases inspired by the painting excursion to Haida Gwaii, will be held at the Emily Carr House museum in September,  2025. ???? www.carrhouse.ca

JULY 2025
I am honoured once again to be an Artist in Residence at the Victoria Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina, and the Blue Crab Restaurant, 146 Kingston Street, near Fisherman’s Wharf, Victoria, BC

July 18th -30th: It’s a Go!

We followed Emily Carr to Haida Gwaii, and it inspired new canvases of wild trees, landscapes, and even whales.  Accommodations, airfare, and a rental car were all covered by generous donations from friends, family, and even people I’d never met. Art makes a community. Two of the many guided tours to the culturally sensitive areas of Gwaii Haanas where Emily Carr painted were breathtaking. It was a journey I’ll never forget, and we have the paintings to make sure I never do.

COMMISSIONED:  SUPER stoked over this news! The Fox & Monocle Cafe, a local restaurant and bakery concept gem in Canoe Cove, Saanich, BC has commissioned me to do a large canvas of their fox for their restaurant wall. This lovely building, and gorgeous area has history for me personally, it will be nice to see it again. Dad loved it there, we visited it many times in the years I was looking after him. The Point Hope Street Festival shown here is the event I have a booth in on Father’s Day. Hope to see you locals there, and I’ll do what I can to bring everyone into it virtually (maybe even remember I have an Instagram thing).

Please note that parking is tight–but look at all the cool free ride options, and it’s a working yard, so there’s suggested footwear advice as well. It’s going to be amazing.

Coast Victoria Hotel and Marina Artist in Residence 2021

https://www.coasthotels.com/coast-victoria-hotel-and-marina-by-apa

My first Artist in Residence was in March at the Coast Victoria Hotel and Marina, and in the adjacent Blue Crab restaurant. It was an odd, little bit wonky, even surreal experience because of the pandemic of course. A portion of the proceeds went to the care of the peacocks in Beacon Hill park, in Emily’s memory, in honour of her experience she wrote about in her book, “The Heart of a Peacock”.
